Responsive-new-siteThe latest UK internet use stats have been published by the government and shows some interesting figures:

  • 68% of people (aged over 16) are online every single day
  • 87% of those aged 16 to 24 use social media, and almost half of all adults are on social networks
  • By region, London has the highest rate of internet users at 89%
  • There’s a strong rise in people using mobiles to access the internet, now over 50% of adults, boosted by falling phone prices and the popularity of the Apple iPhone and Samsung Galaxy devices
  • 21% of people used a tablet device to access the internet outside their home or office, while 34% used a laptop

The survey also acknowledges the influence of the internet on people’s purchases, especially relevant in light of the recent high street issues suffered by HMV, Jessops, Comet and others.

Two-thirds of shoppers went online in 2012, with clothes and sports goods being the most popular purchases.
